WHO WE ARE

In 1987, Anthony S. Burkhart purchased the Field Insurance agency from Mr. Gene Field. In January 1988 the agency became the Burkhart Insurance Agency.

Founded in 1958, the agency was located at 19 South 3rd Street in Vincennes, from 1969 until 1993. In the fall of 1993, the agency expanded and relocated at 1600 Willow Street, Vincennes. And most recently moved to historic downtown Vincennes to 16 North 1st Street

Our once small office is now a highly automated, professional insurance center that helps us stay abreast of the continual changes in our industry.

CERTIFIED INSURANCE COUNSELOR

The title signifies the attainment of a high level of professional education and the commitment to a course of continuing education.

The Society of C.I.C.'s goal is to provide insurance and risk management professionals with an excellent, comprehensive and integrated continuing education system of practical value. C.I.C. covers all areas of insurance, including personal lines, commercial casualty, commercial property, life and health, and agency management. Each institute is followed by a rigorous examination. Successful completion of all five examinations, gives the participant the right to use the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Our community involvement extends beyond the doors of our agency. RSVP(Retired Senior Volunteer Program), Vincennes Area Builders Association, The Knox County Chamber of Commerce, Knox County Development Corporation, and United Way are a few of the community projects we support with hands-on work and finances.

COMMUNITY CLEANUP

Burkhart Insurance Agency is committed to the community and the proud sponsorer of the Community Clean-Up which takes place every spring. Individuals or groups in the community are given the opportunity to raise money for a non-profit organization of their choice by cleaning up the streets of Vincennes. This is just another way our agency is able to put money back into the community.

BUILDING HISTORY

In February of 1901, Vincennes architect Thomas Campbell designed the building for the Terre Haute Brewing Company. The building was finished and occupied in 1902. The building served as a livery stable and office. The beer was brewed in Terre Haute and transported down the river to the Vincennes location. From there, it was delivered by a team of horses throughout Vincennes.

The second building was constructed by businessman H.J. Hellert in the early 1900s. Mr. Hellert operated a whiskey wholesale business in the building.

In 2005, the Burkhart family decided to join in the revitalization that was taking place in historic downtown Vincennes. Anthony Burkhart purchased two vacant buildings located at the corner of 1st and Main Street with a vision to restore the buildings and expand the agency. The buildings are located on the "Mile of History" in Vincennes. In May of 2006, the renovations were completed and the agency moved to its new home.
